We've had our say, now can Wonder Woman deliver ‘One Suffolk’?

The deadline to comment on Local Government Reorganisation has passed.

Now it's up to Andrea Hill, but can she do it?

Can she save us from the ridiculous Rural/North Haven split and deliver the ‘One Suffolk’ option?

Will she;

- save Lowestoft from being assimilated into Norfolk?

- make Suffolk a force to be reckoned with in the East of England and Nationally?

- keep our Emergency and Essential services intact?

- demand our fair share of the National Health budget (we currently get just 80% of the National average)?

- allow our councillors their democratically elected say in the running of our County?

- deliver true localism and at the same time protect us from the NIMBY’s?

- cut excessive over bureaucracy at ALL levels of local government?

and finally,

- CUT OUR COUNCIL TAX?

Come on Andrea, show us what you’re made of!

Here’s to a Unitary Suffolk!

P.S. Apologies for the amateur cut & paste!!

I strongly support a single unitary authority for all Suffolk
It is odd to maintain this is too large an area for one authority to cover, wkgbgkug in that it is the same area covered by the existing county council, responsible for 80% of all local government services in the county. However the big challenge ahead is how to structure the links between the central authority and local communities -essentially the towns and parishes within the county.
I hope it is in within the power of the central authority to structure these links as it thinks fit.
I hope it will be able to establish new town councils and to delegate to them such powers (eg to make planning decisions) as it thinks fit;and similarly to delegate such powers as it thinks fit to parish councils.
Town and parish councils will still be elected and can campaign for what they want.
It may be they should be given increased powers to co-opt (eg from the local health authority).
Voters minds have to be set at rest on this essential link between central authority and local communities

However as I understand it their power to act will be dependent on what is delegated to them by the

Glad Wonder Woman was fiction, too!

If 'One Suffolk' (with or without Lowestoft) is adopted, Bury will be represented by 4 or 5 councillors. Each single-member ward will contain 6,000 electors. A full-time member would be necessary. The average full-time wage is £23,000. Are you comfortable with that?

PS. The torso is that of Lynda Carter. I would recognise her a mile off.
